§ 6-46. Generally.

  • (a)

    It shall be the duty of the animal control authority to capture any animal found running at large in the city and to impound such animal in the animal shelter.

    (b)

    The animal control authority shall notify the animal's owner in writing of the impoundment, either by personal delivery or by U.S. Mail. If the owner cannot be found, notice shall be posted for five (5) days at city's police department. If the animal's owner does not claim the animal within five (5) days of the date of the notification or posting, the animal control authority may dispose of the animal in a proper and humane manner or send the animal to an organization so that it may be adopted. The animal's owner shall be responsible for all impounding, transportation and destruction costs.
