§ 6-48. Notice to owner and redemption; removal of abused or neglected animal.

  • (a)

    Not later than three (3) days after the impounding of any abused or neglected animal, the abused or neglected animal's owner shall be notified in writing of the impoundment, either by personal delivery or by U.S. mail. If the owner cannot be found, notice shall be posted for five (5) days at the city police department. If the animal's owner does not claim the animal within five (5) days of the date of the notification or posting, the animal control authority may dispose of the animal in a proper and humane manner or send the animal to an organization so that it can be adopted. The owner of the animal shall be responsible for paying all impounding, transportation and destruction costs.

    (b)

    The animal control authority shall be allowed to enter private property for the purpose of removing abused or neglected animals.
